Lee Jackson enjoyed a strong start to his first season in the MCE British Superbike Championship, with two points scoring finishes in this weekend’s first races at Donington Park.
The weekend got off to a positive start for the Lincolnshire teenager, who finished third and 11th in Saturday’s free practice sessions.
Qualifying proved slightly tougher for Jackson, as he was set back by a small crash in Q1. Helped by a red flag, the team managed to get his BMW S 1000 RR repaired in time for a final few laps to secure his place in the second session. He went on to set the 18th fastest time ahead of Monday’s two races.
Despite being further down the field than he’d have liked, the 19-year-old fought through in both races to take home points in a respectable 13th position.
I’m really happy with today’s results, after two crashes yesterday it’s really important to walk away with two solid finishes. As much as I’d have liked to be in the top ten I know what I’ve got to do and we made a lot of progress today so I’m pleased with that. I need to be able to get a good qualifying spot moving forwards so I can challenge further up in the races, but it’s not been a bad start. I’m looking forward to brands but it’ll be quite difficult with so many riders on such a small circuit!
