Dreary weather made it a tough weekend for the Buildbase BMW team at Oulton Park last month.
Wet and windy conditions confronted the MCE British Superbike racers on the Cheshire circuit, but it didn’t dampen Jackson’s spirits as he qualified in Q2 with one of his fastest times in the championship so far.
Starting in 9th position on the grid, Jackson couldn’t quite get a grip on the track in the first race session, leaving him to finish in position 14. The Lincolnshire racer built great speed on the second outing though, going nose to rear with many of the BSB’s top riders such as Shane Byrne, Leon Haslam and Michael Laverty. Yet as the dramatic session came to a close, Jackson slipped as conditions dried up leading him to a position outside of the top ten at 13.
Jackson said: “I’m disappointed not to have finished in the top ten this weekend after the strong qualifying, but it just wasn’t to be. I got a good start to the second race and was fighting with [Shane] Shakey but when it dried up I lost a bit of pace.”
But it was Buildbase BMW team mate Richard Cooper’s day at Oulton Park as he claimed his first ever victory at the MCE BSB. Leading strongly since the beginning of the second race, Cooper had inched his way in front of rival Christian Iddon, eventually securing his win with a drag to the line.
While its commiserations to Jackson, he joins Buildbase BMW in celebrating Cooper’s win. “Big congratulations to my team mate Richard Cooper for winning the race,” Jackson said. “Now I can’t wait to get out at the next round at Brands Hatch.”
Jackson sits in 9th at the moment with 22 points in total, with Cooper at 41. The next round in the BSB Championship will take place at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on May 20 – 22.
